Evansville Courier & Press chooses Q.I. Press Controls
Evansville Courier & Press in Evansville, Indiana,
is investing in quality by adding Q.I. Press Controls automatic
color register control system for their KBA Motterflex FX-4 press.
Main reasons to choose for Q.I. Press Controls IRS register system
were the technical capabilities of the system, the improvement
in registration quality and the associated expense savings. The
total project contains 8 IRS scanners and in addition IRS progressive
control will be installed.

Tim Hayden, Director of Operations of Evansville Courier &
Press and Lee Parrish, Pressroom manager, were involved in the
decision making. “We are happy working together with Q.I.
Press Controls North America” Tim Hayden explains. “We
print the Evansville Courier & Press newspaper on our flexo
press and were looking for a color register system that fit in
with our quality demands. We found the IRS of Q.I. Press Controls
would save on newsprint waste and improve quality, and it is that
combination that led us to this decision. We also decided for
the IRS progressive control system that enables us to maintain
the register at maximum stability during start-up and acceleration
of the press. Pre-adjustment is now possible during a reel-change,
thus reducing errors to a minimum.”
Gerald Ferron, Managing Director of Q.I. Press Controls North
America is very pleased with this new order. He explains that
the IRS progressive control system is an algorithm that carries
out a correction based on external data before the IRS camera
sees the error – the IRS, of course, cannot see an error
until after it has occurred. With the aid of the new progressive
control algorithm we are able to correct an error even before
it occurs!
