Oosterhout, March 2007 - This all was achieved
by a retrofit-investment by The Indiana Gazette in Q.I. Press
Controls’ IRS technology. This project was executed by Q.I.
Press Controls North America through our agent Print2Finish in
Yardley, PA-USA.
All-in-One solution
The problem The Indiana Gazette encountered was the increasing
amount of full-colour advertisements and editorials required in
its daily newspaper and the challenge of printing the additional
colour on its hand controlled newspaper press, consisting of Goss
printing units. At the same time higher quality standards had
to be met, without the increase costs of waste. Vice President
and General Manager of the Indiana Gazette, Joseph L. Geary: “We
were looking for an all-in-one solution. Selecting a suitable
colour register system was one thing, but getting it installed
on our Goss Urbanite was something else. Q.I. Press Controls’
agent Print2Finish managed, with Q.I. Press Controls, to not only
implement the colour register system but also to motorize the
hand adjustment of the plate cylinder register system. The system
resulted in immediate savings by reducing start up waste and by
controlling waste caused during web splices. By means of this
retrofit the economic lifespan of the press has been considerably
prolonged.’
Remote Controlled Motor type
Q.I. Press Controls has worldwide experience in motorizing and
controlling the colour register on Goss Urbanite rotation presses
and comparable presses. For the press of the Indiana Gazette this
meant that on all 24 cylinders the hand wheel-register adjustment
needed to be motorized.
By means of these built-in motors the IRS controls the colour-to-colour
register on the Indiana Gazette’s Goss Urbanite newspaper
press for two, two sided full colour web leads. IRS cameras were
placed in line were both compensators and colour registration
motors are adjusted and maintained on each web lead throughout
the press run. Press manager Joe Naman:” we have been working
with IRS for three months now and every operator adjusted to the
feel of the system and our operational process has been adjusted
to it. Yes, we like this very much!
