Q.I. Press Controls provides Vanguardia Liberal with customised design

Oosterhout, maggio 2016 – The leading Colombian newspaper, Vanguardia Liberal, is to fit its printing presses with automation equipment supplied by Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC). A major national daily, the newspaper has placed an order to install an mRC-3D system for register and cut-off control on its recently acquired Goss Universal 50 press with 12 towers. A personalised design for the system was specially developed for the press and Vanguardia Liberal by QIPC.

State-of-the-art
With the mRC-3D on its press, Vanguardia Liberal expects to reduce waste, as well as effectuate a much better printing quality. It's the first time the Colombian newspaper has done business with QIPC. Both parties were in contact with each other through Juan Echavarria from Print2Finish, whom as Colombian agent of QIPC played an important role in realising the order. “QIPC has an excellent reputation in the market and their systems have already been installed in various printing plants across Colombia”, explains Vanguardia Liberal's production manager, Manuel Carascal. It was just one of the many reasons his company decided to opt for QIPC. “Their products are state-of-the-art.”

The press purchased by the Colombia-based newspaper was already equipped with the QIPC's cut-off control, but Vanguardia Liberal was keen to add the register control because a 12-tower press is too big for them to operate manually. The current order will bring about an update of the existing system with the addition of register control. One very practical advantage for Vanguardia Liberal is the fact that the press is also equipped with an operating system supplied by Engineering Automation Electronics (EAE), a sister company of QIPC. Although in this case the paper decided not to purchase the system as part of the Performance Package, popular among print concerns, Vanguardia Liberal will nevertheless be able to take advantage of the collaboration between QIPC and EAE. Manuel Carascal adds, “Having a single supplier for our automation and operating systems is a huge bonus for us. It means that the integration of operating systems in our automation processes will be a great deal easier.”

Customisation

The mRC-3D system which will be installed in Bucaramanga has its own unique design. It turned out that the conventional cut-off control was not stable enough for the press bought by Vanguardia Liberal, as a result of which QIPC decided to modify the mRC-3D's design. “The flexibility shown by QIPC in meeting the requirements of the customer was an important plus for us”, explains Manuel Carascal.

This flexibility is all part and parcel of QIPC's service and represented yet another major factor in Vanguardia Liberal's decision. “The availability of spare parts and a 24-hour service desk in the US eases our worries considerably”, concludes Manuel Carascal.
