– Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC)
has recently struck a new deal with Canada-based Webnews Printing. The IRS
system (also supplied by QIPC) is to be replaced by a new mRC-3D system
for register control on the DGM 430 & Ventura press at the company's North York plant.
Webnews Printing is an
existing client of QIPC's which already has fully operational mRC-3D
cameras in place on three other towers, in addition to the IRS system. On the
back of its recent successes at Webnews Printing, it only stood to reason that
the new upgrade should be supplied by QIPC. “The system works well and is easy
to use”, explains Rob Desimone, shop foreman at Webnews Printing. “As someone
who is reticent to place their trust in computers, I was quick to see that this
system is well-designed and reliable.”
Replacing the old IRS system
was necessary to ensure that this part could function with the rest of the
press. “The old system was not working as well as the new one that will be
arriving”, says Rob Desimone. “Some parts have already been replaced and we
were faced with the choice of either keeping new spare parts for all the
components or upgrading the old system lock, stock and barrel. Based on the
performance of the new system on the other part of the press, we opted for the
full upgrade.”
Ronald Reedijk, managing
director of QIPC-EAE Americas explains exactly what will happen: “We will be
installing eight mRC-3D cameras on four towers which will replace the
IRS part of the press. The mRC+ system has already been installed on the
other three towers and that will continue to be the case.” In addition to
increased production reliability, the upgrade will deliver Webnews Printing
other key benefits. “We are counting on better performance and less wastage.
What's more, we will be future-proofing our printing press”, explains Rob
Desimone.

foreman is extremely satisfied with the contacts he has had with QIPC and has
great confidence in a productive continuation of the collaboration. “I'm
looking forward to it and hope that I'll be able to learn a great deal more.
The company enjoys a good partnership with QIPC’s Canadian agent Jim Leveille
and his help and expertise have proved extremely valuable. Without Jim, things
would have not run quite so smoothly and I'm looking forward to continuing the
cooperation with him and QIPC.”
